Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
